Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven or air fryer to 375°F (190°C)
  2. Season the steak with salt and pepper, and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelised (10-15 mins), stirring occasionally. Add the balsamic vinegar, turn heat up high and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  4. In a separate dish, toss the sliced mushrooms with minced garlic and olive oil. Roast in the oven/air fryer for 10-12 minutes, or until tender and browned.
  5. Heat another skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil, and once hot add the seasoned flank steak. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium rare, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness.
  6. Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing it thinly against the grain.
  7. In the same pan that you cooked the steak in, add the heavy cream, stock cube and crushed peppercorns. Cook over medium-low heat until the sauce thickens and coats the back of a spoon, stirring occasionally.
  8. Toast your bread slices until lightly golden and crispy. This will help prevent the sandwich from going soggy.
  9. To assemble the sandwich, spread the creamy peppercorn sauce on each slice of toasted bread. Top with slices of the cooked steak, caramelised onions, roasted mushrooms, and burrata cheese.
  10. Close the sandwich with the other slice of bread, slice it in half, and serve hot.
